Fishing Major and Minor Feeding times / Night Fishing For Smallmouth Bass And Catfish

Fishing major and minor feeding times is an age old technique using the science of solunar theory. The solunar theory is a hypothesis that fish and other animals move according to the location of the moon in comparison to their bodies.[1] The theory was laid out in 1926 by John Alden Knight, but was said to be used by hunters and fishermen long before the time it was published. Now you can get an app or monthly calendar to show you exactly when the most ideal times to fish are based on the phase of the moon. This is just one of many ways you can gauge the best time to fish based on science. A few other factors I regularly consider are barometric pressure, flow rates, water clarity, weather, seasonal changes ect. When all signs point to great fishing thats a good time to skip sleep, blow off chores or call in to work.
This night I was dead set on doing some night fishing and fished several locations for hours without any action untill all the sudden all these fish were caught in a 45 minute window then nothing afterwords. I wasn't paying attention to the moon phase at all but afterwords I looked on my bass forecast app and realized all the fish I caught were right in the middle of the minor moon phase. In the summer I like to go night fishing often anyway because although ive only begun night fishing a few years ago I have had a lot of success night fishing. I find the bigger fish come out at night and nocturnal fish become a more likely fish to catch wich means more walleye, gar, catfish ect. Night fishing has its own set of challenges as fishing is difficult without the ability to see what you are doing or where you are casting and sometimes its just plain creepy wether in the city or in the woods. Despite these set backs night fishing is well worth it especially in the heat of summer.
On this night the smallmouth bass turned on and were biting aggressively during this window of opportunity created by the moon. river fishing for smallmouth bass at night is plenty of fun and some of my biggest bass were night catches.
