Associated IBS Symptoms:
◦ Nausea
◦ Headache
◦ Belching
◦ Poor appetite
◦ Tiredness
◦ Backache
◦ Muscle pains
◦ Feeling quickly full after eating
◦ Heartburn
◦ Bladder symptoms

Diet Triggers for IBS Constipation:
• Breads and cereals made with refined (not whole) grains
• Processed foods such as chips and cookies
• Coffee, carbonated drinks, and alcohol
• High-protein drinks
• Dairy products, especially cheese

Diet Triggers for IBS Diarrhea:
• Too much fiber, especially the insoluble kind you get in the skin of fruits and vegetables
• Food and drinks with chocolate, alcohol, caffeine, fructose, or sorbitol
• Carbonated drinks
• Large meals
• Fried and fatty foods
• Dairy products, especially in people who have lactose intolerance
• Foods with wheat for people who are allergic to or have a bad reaction to gluten.

Low FODMAP diet:
The low-FODMAP diet is a short-term eating plan where you avoid foods that are high in FODMAPs. This is to see if your irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms improve. Following a low-FODMAP diet improves symptoms for three out of four people with IBS. IBS Treatment (Medications):

1. Antispasmodics: The best evidence for treatment include Cimetropium (Alginor), Peppermint oil, Pinaverium (Dicetel and Eldicet) and Trimebutine. The pain may ease with medication but may not go away completely.

2. Constipation Medication: A medicine called Linaclotide (Linzess) works differently to other medicines for treating constipation. It has been shown to reduce pain, bloating and constipation symptoms.

3. Anti-diarrheal Medication: Loperamide (Imodium) may be useful if diarrhea is the main symptom.

4. Anti-bloating: Peppermint Oil

5. Anti-depressant Medications: A Tricyclic antidepresaant at low dose, eg Amitriptyline is sometimes used to treat IBS. They help with the pain of IBS. SSRI antidepressant medicines eg Fluoxetine are also used for IBS.
