In Bowen Island, British Columbia, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau outlines the next phase of his government’s Oceans Protection Plan. The expanded plan, which includes a $2-billion investment previously announced in the 2022 federal budget, will establish 15 additional measures for ocean protection initiatives and bolster partnerships with Indigenous communities. He is joined by federal ministers Omar Alghabra (transport) and Joyce Murray (fisheries and oceans), as well as Patrick Weiler (MP for West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country), and Khelsilem (council chairperson for the Squamish Nation). The prime minister responds to questions from reporters on Canada’s decision to return turbines to Germany for the Nord Stream 1 pipeline carrying natural gas from Russia. He is also asked about the ongoing controversy surrounding Hockey Canada and the alleged 2018 sexual assault involving members of the national junior team.
