Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms being signed into law by Queen Elizabeth II. The Charter ensures the fundamental freedoms of every Canadian, the freedoms which members of Police on Guard swore to protect when taking their oath. Police on Guard continues to advocate for these freedoms during a time when public policies have infringed on these fundamental rights.

Former Premier Brian Peckford is the last surviving signatory of the Charter. He has been critical of the Provincial and Federal government's covid policies arguing that these policies clearly violate the Canadian Constitution.

As the Charter turns forty it appears that the values of our free and democratic society, which it was founded on and enshrines in law, are under threat. Multiple organizations and people, including Police on Guard, Brian Peckford, The Constitutional Rights Centre, and The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms have filed legal challenges to ensure the rights of Canadians are upheld.
