On Dec. 29, 2021 at approximately 6:30pm, River Rosenquist stuck his arm through the tiger cage at the Naples Zoo. Eko, an 8 year old endangered Malayan Tiger, seized the opportunity to bite Mr. Rosenquist’s hand and lower arm. The bite was so severe that muscles and internal structures of the lower arm and hand were exposed and available to view, as evidenced by the detailed bodycam footage. For reference, Malayan tigers can eat 88 pounds of meat at one time and generate over 1,000 PSI of bite force.

Eko was fatally shot by a Collier County Sheriff’s Deputy in order to free Mr. Rosenquist from Eko’s ferocious, powerful and traumatizing bite.
Mr. Rosenquist was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers after the incident. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office stated that no charges will be filed.

"Simply put, there are no laws on the books that apply to this reckless act.”
