The First African American on a US Coin was the Booker T Washington Half Dollar silver coin. These are rare valuable coins because of low mintage. In 2009 Duke Ellington was featured on the District of Columbia quarter, Fredrick Douglas quarter is set to be released along with the Gold Lady Liberty Coin. Harriet Tubman will be on the $20 bill.
