Bernie Sanders: Why He Lost / Why His Coronavirus Bill Is a Socialist Trojan Horse
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Bernie Sanders has proposed the biggest power grab in American history.
Here’s just some of what’s outlined in his bill…
Now of course, his bill has 0% chance of passing and now with him dropping out of the 2020 race some of you may find this video irrelevant, but it’s still useful to imagine what would happen if America did respond to the coronavirus in this way because so many young Americans and government officials support the senator’s vision…
First, his bill goes further than ANYTHING being offered in the world so for those of you who are trying to claim that Bernie Sanders is a “centrist” this bill should dispel that delusion.
Bernie Sanders lost the Democratic primary not because of campaign tactics, such as some of his supporters like Kyle Kylanski like to claim, but because of policy.
Bernie Sanders has been running for president pretty much non-stop since 2015 so we all know where he stands on the issues and so Bernie Sanders was too-far left for even the Democratic base, which means he would have definitely been too-far left for the more centrist general election. The only way Bernie Sanders could have won the Democratic nomination is for democracy to have failed, in other words, his supporters needed to hope that the anti-Sanders Democratic majority would have split up their vote enough that Bernie Sanders could have slipped through to the nomination with just 30% support from the most radical part from the already most radical Democratic party in history.
Now getting back to Bernie’s coronavirus legislation, I agree with him that the U.S. government could offer more economic relief, but we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that the U.S. government is already doing more than most governments.
And the main thing I want you to consider when thinking about Bernie’s bill is that ending a virus is not like ending a war. There will not be a clear end date where the enemy surrenders and a treaty is signed. As we flatten the curve, the coronavirus will still exist for years to come. So just as the American government made a massive mistake by going into Iraq without an exit strategy we have a responsibility to at least ponder the long-term effects of government actions no matter how sensible it may seem in the short-term.
And sure, short-term we could just spend 3 trillion or 10 trillion or 50 trillion. Why not give $5,000 a month? Or why not triple everyone’s paychecks and then cap it for those who earn over $100,000 because otherwise wouldn’t Bernie’s plan lead to the government giving more money to the wealthy since they earn bigger paychecks? And why not give food stamps to all Americans? Or for that matter why not put our nationalism aside and give food stamps to all humans?
My point is that when you just focus on the short-term then the cost of things no longer matter so WHY not aim higher?
But when we consider the long-term costs we can see how absurd Bernie Sanders bill is because the CENTRAL problem with it is that it will not be a temporary measure.
“Never let a good crisis go to waste.”
He may claim it’ll just be temporary, but then at what point would the bill’s provisions expire?
For example, when the pandemic is officially over it’s easy to imagine that people will still want that monthly $2,000 check because they’ll argue accurately that they are still feeling the coronavirus’s economic effects. In fact, we are much more likely to see politicians increase the $2,000 a month as the value of the dollar drops.
And of course, once people start getting free healthcare they’ll demand it forever, not because it’s particularly good, but because the government could keep kicking the tax bill down the road.
“No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!”
So Bernie Sanders knows all this! He knows his big bill is just a trojan horse to ultimately create the America he wants in one fell swoop of the pen. It’s an America where we are all more equal…. equal in poverty and in mediocrity.
