Sunday Longplay - Doom 1 (Switch) - Add-on #2: Double Impact (UV-Max)

This week on Sunday Longplay, with Doom 64 going on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and Doom 2's Master Levels going on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I thought I'd play another add-on wad for Doom 1 as long as I had Doom on the brain. This is Double Impact, a community-made 2011 Cacoward-winning 9-level episode replacement wad made by Matt Cibulas (a.k.a. RottKing) and Ralph Vickers (a.k.a. Ralphis), played on the Nintendo Switch console port of Doom 1.

Just like with the previous episodes, I will be going for 100% kills and secrets on Ultra-Violence difficulty. And boy, are there a lot of both in this wad! Each map has hundreds of enemies (E1M7: Waste Treatment has over 500!), and a bunch of secrets to uncover (E1M2: Central Computing has 12, E1M6: Command Center and E1M7: Waste Treatment both have 10)! These maps are so huge, it's no wonder you need limit-removing source ports to play it on PC!

RottKing and Ralphis also put their own spin on some of the music in this wad, including a new original song for E1M1: Maintenance Area, a fanmade mashup of the Phobos Lab, Toxin Refinery, and Containment Area themes for E1M2: Central Computing, and a fanmade remix of the Phobos Anomaly theme for E1M8: Launch Bay. Nice little touches there.

Despite all the massive amounts of enemies in each level in this wad, ammo actually wasn't nearly as tight as it was in Sigil. But that doesn't mean that this game was a cakewalk! Furthest thing from it in fact! E1M8: Launch Bay in particular is high on my lists of the hardest and most frightening Doom levels I've ever played! The secret exit can be found in E1M3: Research Complex.
