Sharp Twin Famicom Overview in 2020 (Featuring Doki Doki Panic on Nintendo Famicom FDS)

Have you ever wondered what a floppy disk would do for a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), look no further. My buddy Nick, has a third-party, yet official Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom) Disk System (FDS) console; the Sharp "Twin Famicom" console, and showed it to me (and my son).

The game in play here is, "Doki Doki Panic," which as most now know, was the basis for the American version of Super Mario Bros. 2. There are a few differences between the famous NES game versus the Famicom Disk Drive game. In Mario, the player can choose a character and play through the game. In Doki Doki Panic, the player must play as each character and beat the game, which is where a built-in save feature is so critical.

Let's take a look.

In later (and unrecorded testing), I did find that the RetroFreak Famicom to NES adapter for their own console does work, if you should want to play NES games on the console.

As a side-note, I originally bought the device for the retroUSB AVS so I could use the Famicom port, but it does not fit unless the cartridge PCB is removed. I put it to the side and eventually tried it here. It was successfully tested.
