The Apocrypha

The word “Apocrypha” originally denoted “hidden” writings.
It comes from Greek and is formed from the combination of apo (away) and kryptein (hide or conceal – origin of the English word “cryptic”).

It came to be commonly applied to writings that were hidden because of their questionable value. It refers to any scriptural texts that fall outside the canon and are not considered to be inspired.
