Honda Spree ● Fixing the Starter on a 30-year old Scooter! Take Apart, Disassemble and Rebuild

Fixing the starter on a 30-year old Honda Spree scooter! This technique applies to all kinds of small engines that rely on a compact electric starter to get running. These starters can last a long time but eventually will need to be cleaned out, rust removed, and grease replaced

In addition, the spring-loaded brushes will wear out and need replacement, as well as the main bearing. Generally these parts can be purchased and retrofitted into the old starter to keep it going. I found equivalent brushes, springs, and bearing from a Suzuki LT80 starter. Search on eBay for "STARTER REPAIR KIT SUZUKI LT80" to find several priced from $11-25. I went with the $11 version and it had all I needed.
