World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks (PS2) Gameplay Sample

So what happened when 3DO brought the Battletanx series to the next generation on the PS2? Not much really. I guess this is also on the PS1 as well, but Thunder Tanks, while solid when compared to Global Assault, just doesn't hit like the Previous game.

The game isn't bad, and in fact, it can be quite fun, especially with the multitap, it just lost something by going the Quake III/Unreal Tournament route with the series. No longer is there any story mode, the single player mode is just a series of bot deathmatches in the variety of modes the game offers. Still fun to play, but not as compelling as the previous Battletanx games.

The hectic multiplayer modes are all here, and it supports four players with the multitap, but my only complaint about it is, instead of having a variety of tanks to switch to after you die, you only get to chose one tank to use, and cannot change tanks in the middle of the battles.

Overall, I say this game is still pretty good, in fact, it's quite a lot better than the review scores would have you believe. It has some fun, hectic mayhem, and retains most of the Battletanx feel, and it's cool weapon selections. While, I do think that Global Assault is better, Thunder Tanks is still fun, especially if you have a friend or thee to play, and a multitap. Even just with one other player, this game will give you hours of simple, hectic fun.
