Brazil commemorates 200 years of independence

Portugal has agreed to lend the heart of Brazil's first emperor, Don Pedro, to the Brazilian government to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Brazil's independence from the Portuguese royal family.
On September 7, 1822, under the strong demand of the Brazilian people and the pressure of the Portuguese Parliament, Pedro, who had just arrived at the Ipiranga River in Sao Paulo, drew his sword and swore "Independence or death!" officially declared Brazil's independence
