In 1928, Karl Jansky, a telecom engineer in New Jersey, was working on his antenna when he discovered some strange interference. This odd signal, in contrast to other sources that were interfering with telephone connections, was originating from an unidentified source. He had no idea where it came from, but after months of research, he discovered its source in 1931.The source lay in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius in the center of the Milky Way galaxy. He had no idea what he had discovered and what threat it was going to pose to us in the future. What was that object, and is there anything to be worried about?
