Don’t waste the waiting
Lessons from Miriam, the leading lady of the Exodus

Exodus 15:19-21

Amram & Jochebed -(Exodus 2):
Moses the lawgiver to instruct them (Acts 7 - he was mighty in words & deeds),
Aaron the High Priest to offer atonement for their sins, and
Miriam the prophetess and worship leader to lead them in praising God.

Miriam waited for the deliverer
-Moses was 40 when he fled Egypt
-Moses spent 40 years in Midian
-By the time she stood on the other side of the Red Sea, she was in her 90’s. She let loose!

She didn’t become a leader overnight. She learned by worshipping in the waiting!
How do I worship in the waiting? Lessons from Miriam:

Live with Expectation
It was a time of panic and fear
DON’T LET WORRY PARALYZE YOU, LET WORSHIP EMPOWER YOU!
Miriam believed that they would be delivered. **God’s promises stand the test of time**.
They left Egypt in haste, but grabbed their instruments because they trusted God would keep His promise to His people - expectation!

Live in Preparation
Miriam became a worshipper because God put a dream of deliverance in her heart
WHEN YOU WORSHIP IN THE WAITING, YOU WALK INTO YOUR FUTURE!
When Miriam is first introduced, she isn’t even named
It’s in obscurity that greatness is formed - don’t waste the waiting
We all have a desire to be somebody, to be seen - we already are!

Live for the Destination
Miriam had prepared her heart for the deliverance - attitude
She received recognition after the deepest trial of her life because she gave recognition to God’s glory!
They were still outside the promised land - Don’t reserve your worship hoping things get back to “normal”. We have never been “normal”. It’s not part of Renewal vocabulary! We have been navigating change non-stop. There is no Status Quo!
God has delivered us and moved mountains, but we haven’t yet arrived (the building is the beginning)

Live with Determination
Miriam wasn’t perfect. She made mistakes along the way.
Worship is not just singing, it is an attitude of the heart.
She developed a bad attitude & spoke out against Moses (Numbers 12) - God physically manifested to call her out & punished her with leprosy.
She took her eyes off the big picture.
Moses pleaded on her behalf and she was healed - Delayed the entire nation.
After repentance, God didn’t hold it against her. He talks about her personally:

Micah 6:4 I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. I sent Moses to lead you, also Aaron and Miriam.

Miriam continued to pour into the next generations
She married Hur - who brought a great victory over the Amalekites with Aaron & Moses
Her grandson Bezelel was supreme craftsman for the tabernacle. He was filled with the Spirit of God, wisdom, understanding, knowledge and craftsmanship. He was a leader and called by name to build the tabernacle (Exodus 35:30).
Many Biblical women were named after Miriam.
Miriam’s worship established a precedent for later generations of Jewish women (1 Samuel 18) - she was a spiritual mother to many

Conclusion
Worship in the waiting is an attitude of the heart. What will your legacy be?

DON’T LET WORRY PARALYZE YOU, LET WORSHIP EMPOWER YOU!

WHEN YOU WORSHIP IN THE WAITING, YOU WALK INTO YOUR FUTURE!

Decide today that you will live the BIG PICTURE - Don’t waste your waiting!
