The One Detail EVERY House Needs?

A rainscreen is very simply a small, vented drainage plane on a wall system. While siding and other cladding systems keep bulk water away from the structure; wind, hydrostatic pressure, and imperfections in the cladding system will drive water behind the cladding and onto the weather resistive barrier (or housewrap), trapping the water since there isn’t a place for it to drain. If there are any tears or penetrations in the weather resistive barrier, this water will find a way inside. A rainscreen creates a small air gap between the cladding and the weather resistive barrier, which can be accomplished using furring strips, allowing any water to drain and dry.
