He is joined by Japan's ambassador to Canada Kanji Yamanouchi. Abe was assassinated July 8 in a gun attack while he was speaking at a campaign event in Nara, Japan, ahead of the country's parliamentary elections. Japan's longest-serving prime minister, Abe stepped down in 2020 for health reasons.
