Protesters in Sri Lanka storm and occupy prime minister's residence

PROTESTORS in Sri Lanka are continuing to occupy the residences of the country's prime minister and president after they stormed the buildings on Saturday, forcing the leaders to flee as protesters demanded their resignations.

Sri Lanka's President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said he would step down on July 13, according to the parliament's speaker, but protesters remained skeptical about the promise and vowed to continue occupying the official buildings until the leaders have resigned.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has also said he would step down after Saturday's protests during which his official residence was set on fire.
