The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins

A BBC Radio adaptation by Doug Lucie of Wilkie Collins' classic 1868 detective novel.

The Moonstone is a huge diamond located in the forehead of the statue of an Indian deity, said to carry a curse of death on the one who steals it. Many times it's been stolen, but the thief always dies (sometimes mysteriously) and the diamond is returned to its rightful place.

The latest disappearance of the Moonstone culminates in its being sent to England, where it is given to Rachel Verinder on her 18th birthday ... where it mysteriously vanishes during the celebrations. There are no end of suspects and plenty of plot twists, and when the local police are baffled Scotland Yard is called in ... but can even their detective solve the crime?
