Buttermilk Onion Rings | Taste Just like Outback Steakhouse Blooming Onion

Greetings Fellow food junkie followers, today we are trying out something new. Over the weekend I was grocery shopping and saw that my local grocer had Vidalia Onion in. Now I want to clarify something, there is some trickery that goes on with this from time to time. You will see onions labeled as Vidalia etc, but if they are not from Vidalia, GA, they are not true Vidalia onions. Now they can be grown elsewhere, but there is something about getting them from that area that makes them the best.
Anyways, watch this video to see how I manage to make these Buttermilk Onion Rings. I actually use a fish fry breading and I swear they taste just like outback Steakhouse Blooming Onion.
Recipe:
-5 to 6 Vidalia Onions
-Half Gallon of Buttermilk (enough to cover the onions in the bowl)
-salt/pepper
-Fish Fry breading ( I used A Cajun Life fish fry breading but House Of Autry is a good one too Links below)
Cut onions in big hearty slices
Put them in the bowl and cover with buttermilk.
Set in the refrigerator for a few hours, covered.
Take out and drain the butter milk. Leave Onions in a colander. ( I did not do this step and it will help with the breading caking up. I do recommend this and will do it next time)
Get your oil up to temp. I recommend between 325 to 350.
Add onion rings into oil slowing. Onions have a lot of moisture and can cause the oil to over flow if not careful. Also don't over fill your pot that you are cooking in. About halfway is good. I also recommend not over crowding your pot with too many onion rings.
once they start to float, they are done. About 4 to 5 minuets.
Put them in a bowl or plate with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Enjoy!

Johnny Apple Peeler by Victorio http://amzn.to/2xt4mYz We have used this tool extensively in our kitchen. From peeling apples for the kids or potatoes to making curly fries. When the twins were born, we used this to peel 5 bushes of pears to make homemade baby food.

Swissmar Borner Mandoline V Slicer http://amzn.to/2EfId1H This is a product that I use quite a bit. It will slice up potatoes, Onions, carrots, bell pepper, etc in a quick minute.

The Great Scrape Ultimate BBQ Tool http://amzn.to/2xteJeO If you love grilling

Ninja 4 in 1 cook system http://amzn.to/2xt1RFu We love this unit. I have a video where I cook chicken noodle soup in the one that I have. I love the feature where you set a cook time and it finishes and turns on to warm. You can also brown meat in this or bake in it.
Cajun Injector Batter Pro http://amzn.to/2xX16pN I have had one of these for awhile now. I actually got it for a present for Christmas one year. I love this thing. If you deep fry chicken, fish, or vegetables that need to be breaded, this thing is the ticket.

Kitchenaid Blender http://amzn.to/2xt4LtX I debated for a while between this unit and the more expensive Vitamix blenders. Although I have never used a Vitamix, this one has been very solid for me. I use it to blend soups a good bit. Especially when I make potato soup. Never had an issue with it.

Ninja Blender http://amzn.to/2xt1Q4l This was another item that I did a lot of research on. I was trying to decide between the Magic Bullet and this. I ended up going with this and to this day, I am still very satisfied with my purchase. It blends really great. Does what I need it to do. Great for smoothies where you don’t have to drag the blender out and can drink out of the same cup.
