Abandoned Fire Damaged Apartment Building

This apartment building was built in 1908 for a local lawyer. It was a Jacobethan Style building that originally had 5 apartments. Four of the apartments had servant rooms and large front porches, a little over 2,000 square feet. The fifth apartment was the whole top level of the building, aka the penthouse. The lawyer passed away less than ten years after it was built. It was sold at auction and changed hands over the years.

In the late 1980's one of the apartments was featured in Good Housekeeping Magazine.

The last owner that rented out the apartments bought the building sometime in the 1990's. They subdivided the four apartments on the 1st and 2nd floor. The 3rd floor was left alone. In the early 2010's the apartment building caught on fire. Only two apartments had fire and water damage, the rest had smoke damage. However, the owner had passed away right around the same time. A relative settled the owner's estate and because of the fire damage they sold the apartment building to a developer for a $1,000 dollars. The developer couldn't get grants that were necessary for the repairs and eventually sold it for $50,000 dollars. Today it is labeled as an endangered property by the local community. Without proper funds this historical property may soon be gone.
