My name is Robbie Goldstein, and I am running for Congress to guarantee every person the care and compassion they need to succeed.
As a physician in Boston, a city with some of the best hospitals in the world, I see patients every day who struggle to get the care they need. Too many of my patients have to make impossible choices: between taking their prescription drugs or putting food on the table; between getting a full day’s pay or coming in for the medical appointment they need.
I’ve spent nearly 2 decades in the 8th district - most of it taking care of people. From researching breast cancer genetics to seeing patients for primary care, I have seen the ways who you are and where you live impact your health.
Growing up in a small town in upstate New York, I watched my parents care for our community every day. They worked hard running a dental practice and taught me the value of investing in your neighbors. My sister and I joined them after school and in the summers, and their commitment to caring for each person who walked in the door inspired me to become a doctor.
I came to Massachusetts to go to college at Tufts University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree, MD, and a PhD in cancer genetics. From there, I joined Massachusetts General Hospital for my medical training and eventually joined the faculty. I now work as a primary care doctor and an infectious disease specialist, particularly focused on those living with and at risk for HIV. This work motivated me to push for the structural change needed to create the hospital’s Transgender Health Program. Over six years, I worked with colleagues to build a clinical program dedicated to serving some of the most vulnerable in our community. I do this all with the support of my husband, Ryan, who I met in college. We married in 2008 here in Massachusetts, fully recognizing the importance of equality for all.
