EU will finance the purchase of weapons for Ukraine - Commission Ethos

EU will fund arms supplies to Ukraine, ban pro-Kremlin media, impose new sanctions on Belarus, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Sunday.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Sunday that “for the first time ever, the European Union will finance the purchase and delivery of weapons and other equipment to a country that is under attack.”

Borrell specified that during an extraordinary meeting of the European Council for Foreign Affairs, which will be held this evening, they plan to propose using the European Peace Fund for two urgent measures: to finance the supply of lethal weapons and the necessary fuel to the Ukrainian army, as well as protective equipment and medical help.

Borrell also said that he had instructed “to establish a mechanism to coordinate the requests of the Ukrainian army so that, together with the Member States, we can respond in the most effective way.”
