It might be an unfair comparison due to the different price point. The Ninja works very well, has some clever features and is an excellent value. But it unfortunately cannot replace my Vitamix for making smoothies.
The main deficit of the Ninja vs. vitamix is the pure horsepower. The impact is that for fruit/veggie smoothies, it just cant get the same degree of smoothness that the viatmix gets.
I put in ingredients including berries, chia seeds etc. In the vitamix the final result is very smooth. In the Ninja the final result still has small hard particles, and it actually affects the taste too that theyre not fully ground in.
If youre not using ingredients that have little seeds (like raspberries, chia seeds, etc), then Ninja should be fine though. The 3 tier blade is pretty clever for pulling the ingredients down into (vs. just one level of blades at bottom).
And the preset cycles works well too. Suction cups hold the base in place. The locking mechanism on the lid is well designed. Overall just a nicely designed product.
Ninja is a respected brand name on this house. I have used their coffee maker for years and was very happy to get the blender. This blender is huge, powerful and will do more than I expected faster and better than I hoped.
Crush ice, smoothies, drinks quick and easy. Cleans up quickly too.
Our go-to blender for the last few years has been an incredible Blendtec Classic. It has handled just about everything we could throw at it - from mixing smoothies to soaked rice and even coconut kernels.
Add in its high capacity jar, and the fact that it has held up over years of daily use, and there was very little reason to consider a replacement. So how does this Ninja compare.
The first thing to catch my eye was the three pairs of blades on the center spindle. The Blendtec has just a single pair. Second, is the removable spindle which makes cleanup easier.
Draining the very last bits of my smoothie was always a challenge with the Blendtecs fixed-blade design. Third, the whole unit feels very solidly constructed.
Right from the suction cups at the base that cling to granite like a gecko, to the solid feel of the jar and the lid, and the very heavy base.
Every part of this blender feels high quality, and even simple things like how the lid couples to the jar, or how the jar attaches to the base are very well done - this is truly excellent product design and engineering.
In contrast, the Blendtec seems more functional, than elegant. Fourth, performance. This Ninja works well, and is just as good as my old Blendtec - which at 1560 Watts single-mindedly chews through any job with no fuss.
Fifth, counter space. The Blendtec is much more compact for the same level of performance. If space is at a premium (which it is for us), the Blendtec blends into its surroundings much more easily.
The Ninja seems to be almost overpowering in terms of sheer presence on the countertop. Finally, the Auto-IQ. Unfortunately, I have not used the presets yet - and cannot speak to it.
With the Blendtec, we go by intuition - which so far has worked well for us. In summary - if all you need is a monomaniacal unit that is more functional than esthetic, the Blendtec is the way to go.
On the other hand, if you want to feel awe at what human engineering can do, this Ninja is hard to beat. Cant go wrong with either blender!
Ok, so I own a high-end Vitamix blender, but I prefer this Ninja blender for all drinks and I will explain why as succinctly as possible.
