The Baltic Fleet | Episode 4
We continue to post The Baltic Fleet series for you. In the latest episode, the submarine Magnitogorsk returns home and enters the mouth of the Kaliningrad Sea Canal. The canal was built more than 120 years ago and hasn’t been upgraded for modern ships. As a result, the channel is very narrow, only 80 metres at its widest. In some places, vessels can’t pass, making navigating difficult.
‘It’s like standing on a five-storey building. It’s two entrances long, and as wide as one entrance, and its height is about 14 m. <...> You can’t just stop it like a car,’ says submarine commander Vladimir Nagornov.
This is the fourth episode of The Baltic Fleet. We post it on the Day of Military Honor in Russia. To watch previous episodes tap the links for Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3
