Chesapeake Energy was founded in 1989 by Aubrey McClendon and was one of the forefathers of hydraulic fracturing in the United States. At one point, Chesapeake Energy retained the rights to 15 million acres of land.

Today, Chesapeake Energy has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
