*** Italy declares state of emergency in five regions over drought

Italy has declared a #stateofemergency over a worsening #drought that has plagued five northern regions in recent weeks, Prime Minister #mariodraghi ’s office has announced.

The cabinet approved a state of emergency in Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto until December 31, the government said in a statement on Monday, and allocated a 36.5 million euro ($39.5m) fund to help those affected.

Italy is facing an unusually early #heatwave and a lack of #rainfall , particularly in the northern agricultural Po valley, which has been hit by its worst #drought in decades.

The state of emergency provides “extraordinary means and powers” to help guarantee public safety, compensation for losses while seeking to guarantee #normalliving conditions for those in the area.

Stato di #emergenza per siccità in 5 regioni d’Italia

Il governo ha dichiarato lo #statodiemergenza per #siccità in cinque Regioni. Sono quelle del Nord, più colpito dall'assenza di pioggia da ormai lungo tempo: Piemonte, Lombardia, Veneto, Friuli #venezia Giulia ed Emilia Romagna.
Questo però è solo il primo passaggio per contrastare il problema della #siccità : a breve dovrebbe infatti arrivare un decreto dell'esecutivo per gestire questa fase (ad esempio razionando anche l'#acqua) e contenere i danni, specialmente quelli alle filiere dell'#agricoltura e #allevamento .
E con il provvedimento, dovrebbe essere nominato anche un commissario straordinario, che avrà il compito di coordinare il contrasto all'emergenza.

Non è ancora chiaro quando il governo si riunirà per emanare il decreto.
Oggi il presidente del Consiglio Mario Draghi si trova infatti ad Ankara per l'incontro bilaterale con il presidente turco Recep Tayyip Erdoğan e un Consiglio dei ministri non è all'ordine del giorno.
Il tema della siccità, però, è sempre più #urgente e l'esecutivo dovrebbe quindi riunirsi il prima possibile.
È probabile che entro questa settimana quindi il decreto arrivi, così come la nomina del commissario straordinario.

Sul territorio, specialmente nelle zone più colpite, alcune #autoritàlocali si sono già attivate: in ultima, ad esempio, a Verona il neosindaco Damiano Tommasi ha firmato un'ordinanza per limitare l'uso dell'#acquapotabile a fine domestico (quindi per pulizia e igiene personale anche) dalle 21 alle 6 fino al 31 agosto.
