Tuba (optional Bass Trombone or Tuba in Eb or Bb)

Performance Notes:

While Campra’s piece is a short dance interlude from his opera, “Idoméené,” it is most known for its subsequent adaptation for organ and has since been arranged for many configurations of instrumentalists. It may be performed in a brisk two (as would be indicated by the style of the dance with the same name, but often is performed at a more stately pace.
The pieces included in this “Album of Ceremonial Music” are crafted for ease of playing, and also to allow for seamless transitions, should longer processionals or recessionals be necessary. All key signatures are chosen to flow easily from one to another. Also, each piece in the set allows for some rest for each player in the ensemble. They may be played with or without the optional timpani and keyboard. If the keyboard is used, the passages meant as keyboard solo (shown as small “cued” notes in the brass) may be omitted as well, providing additional rest for the brass players.
