#291: Ten Movies You Have to Watch Before You Die—Patrick Coffin

I am often asked to compile a list of recommended films. I figured now is as good as any to begin to do that. I have no idea how many the total will be but I do know that my recommended picks are the gold ones.

Movies are the universal argot of our times. They gather all other art forms into one. They tell stories in an unforgettable way. The emotional ones we say are "moving." Well, they're movies, after all.

I'm sharing the life-changers, the ones that bear sacramental grace in some way. They're not "Christian films" (in fact, I dislike the concept altogether but films with universal human resonance. They all either opened big, or were critically acclaimed no matter the country in which they were released.

Some have bad words and depict violence. If those offend you, maybe these are not the movies for you. They are for me.

In no particular order:

The Magnificent Seven 1960

The Untouchables 1987

The Intouchables 2012

In America 2002

Cinema Paradiso 1989

Amores Perros 2000

Tender Mercies 1984

Man for All Seasons 1966

Lantana 2001

The Sound of Music 1965

Let me know your thoughts! Happy belated Fourth to my fellow Americans!
