Blueberries and Swallowtails 7-3-20

Lori Fiechter here again--lots of garden updates this time of year! I picked a few blueberries but they looked a lot more blue until I brought them in to the kitchen. I think I'll wait a couple of days before picking again. We don't have as many as last year--there were a lot of dead 3-year canes this spring that Stan had to remove.

I shouldn't look back...Last year at this time, I was canning pickles like mad. This year, well, I'm disappointed in the cucumbers--I should have stuck with mini-muncher even if I had to order them special from a different source. The mini-muncher have all female flowers so they bear heavily. I guess I'll give these "green light" a chance but I doubt I'll green-light them next year!

I've had to destroy quite a few dill heads...I don't mind the swallowtail caterpillars crawling up the stem but something is crawling around in the flowers--look like army caterpillars. Anyway, they don't look like something I want to see turn into butterflies!

I pulled up a red potato plant--we have 30 red potatoes, so I think I can pull a couple of them per week! Fortunately, I picked a good plant and we had enough for our lunch to go along with more green and yellow beans.
