#1: Trent Williams: If he were to get hurt, the 49ers would be screwed. Highest ranked player in the NFL last year according to Pro Football Focus, at arguably the most important position outside of quarterback and he’s protecting the blindside of Trey Lance.
#2: Trey Lance: A lot of the 49ers’ success during the 2022 NFL season hinges on Lance playing adequately. If he plays poorly or is hurt, Jimmy G may not be here to save the day and the Nate Sudfeld era is upon us.
#3: Nick Bosa: 15.5 sacks last year. The ultimate game changer and game wrecker. In today’s NFL, given the rule changes and elite level QB play, if you can’t get pressure on the quarterback, your defense will get sliced and diced. Bosa is a constant threat to drop a quarterback, force an errant throw, which could lead to a turnover or come, win the game or cause a strip sack.
#4: Deebo Samuel: A special and unique player who can change the game through the air and on the ground. Injuries and style of play are a concern, but when you watch him, it forces you to ask this question: Have we seen this before?
#5: Kyle Shanahan: The adjustments he made following the 305 start to finish the season 10-7 were impressive. A second trip to the NFC title game in three years. A huge playoff run taking down the Cowboys and Packers on the road as underdogs. Can Shanahan keep the momentum going? Big season with the development and play calling for Trey Lance and changes to the coaching staff. Show us you’re the offensive wiz kid.
#6: Charvarius Ward: The Niners finally have a legitimate #1 corner. Analytics show he played like one of the best DB’s last year. He got paid. Prove you’re worth the money. Niners secondary has more depth than last year and should be able to eat with the talent and depth of the DL.
#7: Fred Warner: The captain and the All-Pro
#8: George Kittle: Offensive line is suspect. Kittle can provide extra protection in pass pro, the run game and is dynamic as a pass catcher.
#9: Javon Kinlaw: If he’s dominate, the 49ers’ DL will be a handful
#10: Brain Griese: From the broadcast booth to one of the most important position coaches in the NFL because of the importance of getting Lance ready and right.
