Untold Legends Dark Kingdom Gameplay (PS3)
Originally uploaded to Youtube on July 8, 2017
I recently bought Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom for the Playstation 3. This was the third and final game in the Untold Legends franchise of hack n slash dungeon crawling action RPGs, and it was the entry that made the jump from handheld console to home console. When making such a major jump in hardware (from Playstation Portable to Playstation 3) comes certain expectations of a bigger, better and smoother gameplay experience.
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom was released in 2006, just like it's predecessor Warriors Code. It was released late in the year, as it was a launch title for Sony's Playstation 3 console. Much like Brotherhood of the Blade was the only RPG at the launch of the PSP, Dark Kingdom was the only launch RPG for the PS3. As such, it, also carried a massive weight on its shoulders. For many RPG fans, both east and west, this would be the first game RPG that they popped into their brand new system from Sony.
As expected, this features the best graphics and animation of the entire series. It had a decent art design, as well. The fact that it still is not ugly to this day is a testament to that fact. The music was, also, beefed up for this release. It featured both local and online co op. I do not know if the servers are still up, but I kind of doubt it. This is, easily, the best looking and sounding and smoothest playing game of the franchise.
In terms of gameplay, this does scale back a few things. This game only has three playable characters where Brotherhood of the Blade had 4 and Warriors Code had 5. This, also, does not let you pick and choose what weapons you use. You are stuck with teh same weapon from beginning to end. You can equip the weapon with a variety of enhancements that alters the way it looks and how it plays in battle, but that's all.
This does have gameplay improvements, as well, though. This games battle system has more than just the button mashing of previous games. It actually has a combo system that allows you to pull off a variety of moves with different combos of button presses. This adds more depth to the combat than any previous entry in the series. It, also, has a lot more enemies on the screen to fight than ever before.
I do not know why the detail seems to blink a lot in this video. Something may have gone wrong with the recording process. I might try to record some more gameplay of this game to try to get a cleaner video.
