HIbiscus and Sweet Corn

(update: the thunderstorm we had on 7-21 broke off two big stems on one of the hibiscus plants. Stan said "maybe you should have staked them." ...like locking the barn door after the horse escaped!)
Lori Fiechter here in the dog days of summer! We planted two varieties of sweet corn a couple of weeks apart. Today my favorite variety "Sweetness" was ready for the first picking. The big picking of Sweetness will be in a couple more days. If you want to see the full process for sweet corn, I have a video last summer on that!

I have been wanting to grow perennial hibiscus for years and finally found a couple of plants ($24 each! yikes--but it was a gift card) Today, they started blooming! And the weather feels tropical enough to match the giant blooms. Sadly, this Hibiscus moscheutos variety cannot be used to make tea. My brother in Guatemala has a huge hibiscus with orange flowers, variety sabdariffa that is one of the varieties used to tea (technically, tisane)
