Zoonoses are infectious diseases transmitted from animals to humans. Such as COVID-19, bird flu, malaria or Ebola. Zoonoses infect about 2.6 billion people each year. Some zoonotic diseases, such as rabies, are spread only from direct contact between animals and humans. Others, and the most dangerous, start with animals and are capable of causing widespread human-to-human transmission. Nuclear-derived technologies can be used to track pathogens as they move from animals to humans to help the world better respond to any future outbreaks.
