Is Monkeypox something you need to worry about, or is it just the next thing the media wants to create fear over?

While monkeypox is uncommon in the US the outbreak is concerning. As we learn more about the origins of this outbreak there are a few important things to know.

Monkeypox is not easily transmissible, and most of the cases we are learning about are likely from direct inoculation (physical and sometimes sexual contact).

The smallpox vaccine is protective against monkeypox should this outbreak become larger than anticipated.

Treatment of monkeypox is largely supportive, and it has a low mortality rate.
