Giving Old Tools a New Life | Rust Removal with Evapo-Rust

I love hunting for old hand tools and restoring them to something usable. It is just so satisfying to see the rust wipe away and a clean wrench appear, ready for another 50-60 years of use. It is also pretty easy to find some pretty good quality tools this way if you are willing to put in a little bit of work to clean them up. And if you hunt at garage sales, estate sales, and watch your local online buy/sell groups, you can find some fine old rusty tools for next to nothing.

Vinegar is a very cheap way to clean rust off of metal, but it can be pretty harsh on the metal, and sometimes will eat away more then the rust. There are other methods for rust removal, like electrolysis, but I chose to go with Evapo-Rust for most of the tools I find because it is easy, and safe. It isn't cheap, but if you are cleaning enough things, it will pay for itself.
