Doom 2: Back To Saturn X Episode 2 (Switch Add-On) - Map 1: The Blinding Dark (UV-Max)

Just as I had finished recording BTSX Episode 1, Episode 2 decided to drop on consoles as well! That's right, on August 14, 2020, after being in beta for almost 6 years, Episode 2 of the Back To Saturn X saga, entitled "Tower In The Fountain of Sparks", just saw its final release on both PC and consoles! However, like Episode 1 before it, the console release of BTSX Episode 2 had to rename everything to remove the references to the indie rock band Guided By Voices (presumably to avoid a potential lawsuit from the band), and the episode was renamed to another joking expansion of the BTSX acronym, entitled "BTSX Episode 2: 'Big Towers', Says Xaser" (Xaser Acheron being one of the BTSX map designers).

At the end of Episode 1, you had seemingly met a watery grave after the sinking of The "Unsinkable" Fats Domino. However, you find your way back to the surface, washed ashore on a shadowy port in a world that doesn't look like the one you left. A new set of 27 levels awaits in new environments as you brave the alien ruins on the dark side of the planet.

Like Episode 1, BTSX Episode 2 was made to be compatible with the vanilla Doom executable, but you wouldn't know it at first with the gorgeous environments and the hundreds of enemies packed into each level! Episode 2 also ramps up the difficulty from episode 1 (which was already pretty hard!) to the point where the episode description on the console release even recommends playing on a lower difficulty! Forget that, I'm down for the challenge!

Map 1 of Back To Saturn X Episode 2 is entitled "Shadow Port" on the PC release, but was renamed to "The Blinding Dark" on the console release. I take back what I said about BTSX Episode 1 having the most brutal first level of any Doom game I've played, because this tops it! You start with an assault of Pinkies and a Revenant armed with nothing but a berserk fist, so you'd better get good at melee combat if you want to get your foot in the door in this wad! Even after you find the chaingun and the chainsaw, you're still heavily limited on ammo for most of the level, so you're still going to be using that chainsaw and berserk fist quite a bit against tougher enemies like Revenants, Cacodemons, and Hell Knights! Infighting will be your best friend here!
