What Are The Feeding Habits Of Alaskan Whitefish?
Alaskan Whitefish, or commonly called as Broad Whitefish, has an elongated body in silverish-white scales. There’s a reason why it was called broad whitefish because its body is broader compared to other types of whitefish.

Alaskan whitefish are mostly compared to salmonids because they tend to mature between 8 to 10 years old.

They can also live up to more than 20 years. For reproduction, they only spawn once a year in rivers and streams from fall to winter.

In Alaska, they managed to breed Whitefish and could harvest 20,000 – 30,000 fish between spring and fall, and sell them over in commercial places.

Although there was a commercial harvest, yet they are not regulated in the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Numerous researches were also funded by the Alaska Department of Fish and The US Geological Survey to gather more data about the whitefish’s growth, reproduction, and population status.

Feeding Ecology Of Alaskan Whitefish
Alaskan Whitefish are carnivorous bottom feeders, just like the other whitefish.

They eat bivalves, aquatic insect larvae, mollusks, and snails. If you happen to breed whiting fish, these are the most recommended live freeze-dried foods that could be beneficial for the Alaskan Whitefish.
