To me the squash vine borer is the demon of southern gardens. Taking squash that are so productive in the north they are given to neighbors who don't like their car doors and destroying them before they even produce.

Enter the Zucchetta Tromboncino aka "the bad ass, honey badger, dual purpose squash". Check these guys out going into second season production after being hammered by vine borers and yet they just keep going.
