The Stormborn Child
by Timothy of Benington

They stowed up their wagon, and rode for the village
A birth there to be, under warm summer sky
In an age of a plague, in a time of great tumult
They pushed toward that village, the sun drawing high
But there stood a mob, oh they challenged their liege lords
For many among them, held writs of complaint
But the sheriff and guardsmen, held fast ‘gainst this mob
The roads they were blocked, and they nay held restraint

This child for sure, he is meant for great things
Oh, this child for sure is a sight to behold
Sent forth to be born with calamity raging
Such destiny rivals the stories of old

Had only a shieldwall been present to guide them
Had only an escort of knights seen them through
Then Wilhelm and Jen, they might get to this village
To see their son born to his destiny true
But stopped was their wagon, and timid their horses
To violence and plague and to chaos abound
They beckoned the driver move on toward the village
For there was no other safe route to be found

This child for sure, he is meant for great things
Oh, this child for certain, a sight to behold
Sent forth to be born with calamity raging
Such destiny rivals the stories of old

The barber awaits just a dozen leagues further
But the longer they travel the madder the crowd
A miracle needed for hope of this child
To see the warm sun, and see parents so proud
And thus does a miracle rise there to greet them
The clouds they did crowd round that warm summer sun
The violence gave pause, and the mob looked in splendor
As the trickles of rain from a storm had begun

This child for sure, he is meant for great things
Oh, this child for sure is a sight to behold
Sent forth to be born with calamity raging
Such destiny rivals the stories of old

What began as a trickle, it grew to torrent
The mobsmen and guardsmen alike they did flee
The wagon pressed forward as crowds they departed
Their anger was washed with the streams toward the sea
The wagon pushed on, and alas met the barber
Young Wesley was coming to meet chaos and storms
But despite the thunders and mobs and great plague
A sign of a beautiful future was born

This child for sure, he is meant for great things
Oh, this child for sure is a sight to behold
Sent forth to be born with calamity raging
Such destiny rivals the stories of old
