This song, originally penned in 1945 by the legendary writing team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II for the musical Carousel, has been embraced by many football clubs around the world, in which fans are known to passionately sing moments before the start of a match. The tradition started in the early 1960’s, when Liverpool’s fans started claiming Gerry & The Pacemakers 1963 version (which spent 4 weeks at No. 1 on the charts) as it’s official anthem.
