In the beginning we were created in the image of God. What does that mean and how do we get back to being in that image instead of the image of Adam?

EPH 4:22that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

1 COR 15:21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

1 COR 15:45And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 47The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is from heaven.
