In a virtual news conference, Elizabeth May (Green Party parliamentary leader) joins human rights activists in calling for the repatriation of 44 Canadian citizens detained in northeast Syria. Heather McPherson (NDP foreign affairs critic) makes pre-recorded remarks via video. They are joined by Tim McSorley (national coordinator of the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group), Monia Mazigh (author and academic), Clive Stafford Smith (human rights lawyer), Natascha Mikkelsen (founder of Repatriate the Children, Denmark), Taha Ghayyur (executive director of Justice for All), Sally Lane (author and the mother of Jack Letts, a Canadian citizen who is detained in Syria), Matthew Behrens (co-ordinator of Stop Canadian Involvement in Torture), and Nafeesa Mohammed (attorney and former senator of Trinidad and Tobago).
