Abandoned and Likely to be Demolished, 1930's Homeplace, Things Left Behind!

The exact construction date of this old abandoned homeplace isn't available, but the smaller house next door was built in 1930. After looking at photos of other homes with similar architecture and dormers, this home appears to have been built sometime in the 1930's. This home has a separate garage apartment with its own kitchen and bathroom. There is real pine paneling in some of the rooms, not the thin tack-on paneling that became popular in the 1960's and 1970's. There are a number of things left behind including two old ranges that were both manufactured in the 1960's. A sad sight to see was an old photo of a young child that was left behind. A photo of the family dog didn't make it either.

At first, I thought this was an old farmhouse with the much smaller house next door possibly having been for a tenant farmer. After seeing this place in its entirety though, I'm not so sure. There is a barn on the property with one stall that was apparently used to house a horse. There is also a "mini-barn" across the highway that was possibly part of this property at one time. I did a video of it three years ago. If you want to see it close up, it will be linked at the end of this video. Rather than having been a farmhouse, it could have been set up to have a little livestock for the family's sustenance. Families often had a few chickens and maybe a cow, and that may have been the case here.

The property this house and the house next door are on is all for sale. The 4.86 acres is being sold for the land, so both houses will most likely be demolished and some type of commercial development built in their place since it is at the corner of a state highway and a busy road that is part of a bypass. Hopefully though, someone will buy it and renovate these houses.
