Rescuers rushed to save people stranded in heavily flooded areas of India’s northeastern Assam state.

At least seven people died in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll from the flooding to 44 on Wednesday.

India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said 14 teams with 70 boats and 400 people had been sent in to rescue those trapped by the floods.

A major landslide also blocked the Jammu-Srinagar Highway in the Udhampur district of the Jammu and Kashmir region.
