If you really think of it, snakes kinda lost the evolutionary lottery. They have no limbs and have to slither on the ground to get everywhere but it’s not all that bad for our reptilian friends. These slithery serpents still have a lot of tricks up their sleeves. They have poisonous fangs that can put animals 5 times their size to sleep and bodies so strong that they can literally squeeze the life out of any living thing. From a python brutalizing a tiger to a snake swallowing a hippo whole and a snake finally outsmarting a mongoose here are 10 Times Apex Predators Lost To Snakes.

Python Brutalises Tiger

A powerful bite VS a powerful coil. One of the largest cats in the world VS one of the biggest snakes. Who would win? Much like the encounter before this, things don’t start off that great for the snake here either. But the reptile slowly gets the upper hand. At first, the tiger is completely manhandling the snake by tossing it around, throwing powerful jabs, and biting it. But if we learned anything from the last entry on the list it is that you never let a python get too close to you.

All it took was one simple mistake from the tiger and the python started coiling itself around the cat. The tiger struggles to try to get away but the snake’s grip is just too strong. The python starts by coiling itself around the tiger’s neck and slowly works its way down to the cat’s torso. At one point the tiger starts twitching and rolling around like crazy. Likely a sign of panic from its airway being constricted. The tiger slowly starts to lose energy. The cat stops showing any signs of struggle and just accepts its fate. The snake continues to coil itself around its victim's body squeezing every ounce of life left inside the poor tiger.

Python Attacks Alligator

There aren’t a lot of animals that can go head to head against an alligator. But then again, the Burmese Python isn’t just any animal. Native to Southeast Asia, Burmese pythons are among the world's largest snakes. They can grow to be 23 feet long or more, weigh up to 200 pounds, and have a girth as wide as a telephone pole. They finish off their victims by grasping them, with their strong teeth, coiling their bodies around them, and squeezing their bodies until they suffocate. This alligator was in for a fierce battle when a Burmese python slithered into its territory.

The gator gets the upper hand at the beginning of the fight, trapping the python with its razor-sharp teeth. But what the gator considered an advantage, turned out to be its biggest mistake. By allowing the snake to come so close to itself, the alligator handed the python the opportunity to start wrapping itself around him. The snake slowly coils itself around the gator, cutting off its air supply and crushing its bones. The gator is forced to retreat. It isn’t every day you see an alligator be intimidated but we guess there isn’t a lot of shame in being scared of an animal like the ruthless Burmese
