PRAYER FOR OUR NATION

The call came after months of rioting and violence in America's cities.

"I think our country is in trouble," Rev. Franklin Graham of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association explained. "We're calling on the name of God, because only God can fix the problems that we face in this nation today."

The response was overwhelming. An estimated 55,000 people marched on Washington D.C. Saturday, September 26th.

They didn't break store windows. They didn't loot. They didn't shout curses or vilify police. No one was beaten, or shot.

What *did* these tens of thousands of people do? They prayed.

Dubbed "America's Prayer March," the event "focused solely asking God to heal our land."

Dozens and dozens of bus loads of people came to pray. The line of double-parked buses from Liberty University ran for several blocks.

"We need a spiritual healing in this country and only God can do that," Rev. Graham said.

The Ruth Institute was there, and talked with participants before the event.

Vice President Mike Pence appeared at the event along with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Gathering at the Lincoln Memorial, the entire crowd prayed and then walked to seven different locations on a two-mile route to stop and pray for specific needs of the nation.

For instance, at the World War II memorial, they prayed for the military, police officers and their families, and for peace in the country.

At the Washington Monument, they prayed for families, and for an end to abortion.

America's Prayer March ended at the steps of the Capitol, praying for our representatives. "We're coming today, from all states ... to pray, to humble ourselves, to confess the sins of our nation to God, to ask for his forgiveness, and to call on him, to help our nation, and we're going to pray for our representatives," Rev. Graham explained. "Republican, Democrat, we're going to pray for all of them."

Similar public intercession is taking place in vigils outside abortion clinics, and in local Rosary gatherings across the country.

Lake Charles Louisiana's "Rosary Around The Lake" is this Sunday, October 11th.

We at the Ruth Institute encourage all our friends to gather for prayer for our nation.
