It's a hot day and being in the sun with all those feathers means she'll have to Gular Flutter to release some heat. Gular Fluttering is a rapid vibration of the moist membranes of the Gular region of the throat. Driven by the hyoid bone. The small horseshoe-shaped bone in the midline of the neck. The same as when a dog pants from the heat. After a few seconds, mom drifts back off to sleep.
