Modern human experience is increasingly 'atomized'. The bonds of family, community and belonging that once defined society have been deeply impacted. Late stage capitalism also seeks to break people down into individual purchasing units as that makes it easier to market to them. All of this means that our sense of duty and care for each other has never been under more pressure.
