Climbing Mount Rainier During a Snow Storm!

In this video I attempt to climb Mount Rainier in a snow storm! The winter storm made hiking up the mountain very difficult! I started out in Ashford Washington at the Mount Rainier Base Camp. I hired RMI seven months ago to take me up the mountain. My group consisted of 9 climbers and 3 guides. After 2 days of orientation and safety training we set off to climb from Paradise to Camp Muir. Unfortunately, a winter storm rolled in on the day of the climb. When we reached the parking lot at Paradise it was 26°F (-3.3°C) and snowing heavily. As we hiked our way up the 4.5 mile (7.2km) long trail we made a vertical gain of about 4,500 feet (1,370m). At Camp Muir, we were greeted with 30mph (48kmh) winds and a wind chill of around -20°F (-28.9°C)! It continued to snow and blow all through the night. At 4am our guides informed us that the poor weather had created dangerous avalanche conditions higher up the mountain making a summit attempt impossible. Even though we didn't get to reach the top of this majestic mountain I still enjoyed the entire experience! Once the sun came up through the blanket of clouds below us, we had amazing views of Mount Adams and Mount Saint Helens to the south. We ate breakfast and packed up to leave camp. The way down only took us 2.5 hours compared to the nearly 6 hour climb up! We were enveloped by clouds, wind, and snow once again as we descended the mountain but we made it back to Paradise safe and sound. I will be signing up again as soon as possible to make another attempt at the summit! What a wild adventure!
